1/30/2017 0 Comments Week 2This week we did a lot. We made lighting apparatuses,so that we could create directional light. We created them by stripping and wires from an extension cord and connecting them to a lighting fixture. We used led lightbulbs, and put pie tins around the bulb to bounce the light more forward. These lights were used to create a lighting setup for headshots that we took of each other in groups. We had two lights each, one key light (the main source of light for our photos) and one hair light. (used for background fill and to accentuate the hair/head.) We also did our safety exam for Chemistry. It was in a jeopardy style, and it tested us on lots of very important things, including but not limited to: appropriate behavior, inhalation hazards, general lab safety. PORTRAITSAbove is a picture of me, and a picture of my best friend, Maddie. They're edited to be black and white. The first one was staged. We got into groups of four - one model, one photographer, and two people holding lighting fixtures. We used some of the lighting techniques we have learned about in class to find the perfect angle for each person. In this shot, the lighting is pretty flat. That gave my face a soft and youthful look. The second one is a candid shot of Maddie. We went out together on a mission to find natural directional lighting in order to accentuate certain features. While Maddie was looking up, the light was hitting her in a way that accentuated her eye, cheek, forehead, and nose. T-SHIRT RESPONSEThis is the t-shirt I designed. My design is Earth in a broken heart, with a banner across it saying "Policy will tear us apart." We designed t-shirts in response to the policies that our new president, Mr. Trump, signed this week. One was to build a wall between the United States and Mexico, and the other was to keep refugees from predominantly Muslim countries out of the United States essayThis week we were asked to respond to this question: Does our society really depend on ‘creating and maintaining a peon class?’ The button below will link you to the essay I wrote to answer the question. CHEMISTRYWe were given 2 equations:
AgNO3 + NaCl = NaNO3 + AgCl and AB + CD = CB + AD and then we were asked what these two equations teach us about chemistry. I think these teach us that chemicals can change composition/how they're connected when mixed with other chemicals. In other words, I think this just shows how chemicals react to each other

1/20/2017 0 Comments Week 1This week was the first week of the new semester and new project. I was super excited, as the project interested me very much and my best friend is on my team. Photography is the main subject of our project, so we did two workshops (one on the technical aspects of photography and one on boundaries and rules) and took lots of pictures while the weather was nice. We also made safety posters in chemistry and wrote about a photo from the civil rights movement in humanities. (Both shown below) ESSAY: I love this photo. Most people find it sad, or divided, which I totally understand. That's how it appears on the surface. You probably see it in a negative way if the first person to draw your attention is one of the ladies behind Miss Eckford.I personally feel that Miss Eckford is the subject of the picture and should be the one who gets paid attention to. She looked completely unfazed and clam, and that's what makes me love the photo. I can imagine it doesn't feel super great to be subjected to such hate, and I can't imagine that Miss Eckford was happy about the situation. The part that inspires me is that you’d never be able to that from her facial expressions alone. She's pulling through rather elegantly, to insure that she gets a good and fair education. She was willing to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune for her own benefit and the benefit of colored children all over. She went through this awful treatment so she could make history, and I admire that. Miss Elizabeth Eckford is a real example of a true baller. pIcturEd: My CheMIstry safety poster (1); A photo from the first day (2); and A photo from the second day (3) |
